2nd Euphonium - Katie Hopkins

Katie started playing the euphonium while she was a pupil at Chapel End Primary School in Billinge.  She soon joined St. Helens Youth Brass Band, working her way up through the Training Band up to Principal Euphonium of the ‘A’ Band (a FEW(!) years after Helen).  Other bands Katie has played for include Golborne, Blackburn and Darwen and Rainford.  She joined Haydock Band in January 2007.

Katie is a Senior Occupational Therapist for Knowsley PCT and ‘enjoys’ going to the gym and keeping fit.

Principal Euphonium - Helen Geoghegan

Helen started playing the tenor horn aged 11.  Six months later, she joined St. Helens Youth Brass Band which was conducted by her teacher, Lynda Nicholson.  When the band needed a euphonium player 18 months later, Helen changed instruments (after a little gentle persuasion from Lynda!), and shortly after this, she became the band’s Principal Euphonium player.

Helen decided to have a break from banding (and euphonium playing) in 2004 and left the Besses O’Th’ Barn band in January of that year.  However, after only a week and a half of this ‘break’, Helen was persuaded to cover a rehearsal at Haydock and just kept coming!!!  Other than playing for Besses, prior to joining Haydock Band, Helen has previously played for the Hoover (Bolton) Band from 1994-1998, and The Marple Band from 1998-2002.  Helen was also a member of The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, and was the band’s Principal Baritone player in 1997.

Outside of banding, Helen is a maths teacher at Rainford High Technology College, and enjoys shopping, going on holiday, watching soaps and playing with her guinea pigs: Pinky and Perky.  (...and designing the band’s web site!!!)
