Solo Cornet - Amy Hopkins

Amy is in her final year at Salford University where she is studying for a degree in Occupational Therapy.

She initially began playing the cornet at primary school and soon became a member of the St. Helens Youth Brass Band.  Amy later moved onto flugel horn, and she was the band’s principal flugel horn player until she left in 2005.

Amy joined us from The Rainford Band in 2007.

Solo Cornet - Tim Machin

Tim, who originally hails from St Helens, has recently finished studying at Durham University.  He joined The Fishburn Band in 2005, but has recently returned home prior to deciding the next stage in his future!  We are very pleased that Tim has chosen to play for Haydock during this period.  He also played Principal Cornet for the University Band while he was a student at Durham.

Tim was taught to play by Alan Young and Lynda Nicholson, and names his main playing influence as Trumpeter Carl Saunders.  Tim’s former bands, other than Fishburn, are Rainford Silver and St Helens Youth Brass Band.  When asked what his ambitions are, Tim just wants to play in Th'Albert Hall again having enjoyed the experience so much at the Finals in October 2006 in that famous Kensington Village Hall!

Tim has a dark secret.... he is a Sheffield United supporter - never mind!  Tim’s favourite brass band piece of music is 'Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral', but he listens to Indie and Jazz for his leisure.
